As we drive around the campus (University of Cape Coast), we see villages like this...
In those villages, there are kids who like to play soccer. Yesterday, we were walking to my new school to see how long it would take - and on our way back the kids told us to stop walking so we could talk to them. We learned all their names. They named me Kojo (Monday born) and asked me to come back today to play soccer.
Today, we went back to play with them, but they didn't have a needle to pump up the ball - so we ran through the village together and found a shop that had a needle. They pumped up the ball. We went to a gravel and dirt field to play soccer. Some of them played without shoes! Mom took the picture at the top of my blog after our game.
Oh yeah, these kids love to touch my hair because it is a different color and it's softer than theirs.
What a fun thing to be able to play soccer in Ghana. Did you play in your shoes or barefoot? How long did it take to walk to your new school? Happy to year more about your adventures Kojo.
ReplyDeleteLooking good Kojo! I love the nickname, by the way. :)

ReplyDeleteShoot - I thought soccer might be the one sport I would have on you but you will best me at that too now!
ReplyDeleteThis made me think of the wiffle ball game we played at the farmer's market park... Pretty sure atleast Kai was barefoot for that one. :)
ReplyDeleteI love how bold your friends were in befriending you! So this might be a stupid question Kojo, but were you born on a Monday? And, you can't fool me, that last picture just looks like a big ol' head massage. What position do you play in soccer?
