"In Ghana, we beat."

For the last week, while we have been waiting for teachers to get off strike and for school to start, I've been visiting the nursery school on campus with Hannah. We've been feeding kids porridge and pasta.

Anywho, anywho. On the 3rd day, one of the teachers saw a little kid named Fifi - sounds like a pretty soft name, huh, but Fifi over here is not soft at all. He hit a kid I wanted to adopt (but couldn't). He hit him with a chair! So the teacher dragged him over to her chair, laid him sideways on her lap, and smack! She spanked little demon Fifi on the butt with 'often-spanking-little-kids'-butts' hands.

Anywho, anywho, lets get to the point. The teacher called me to come over to her after she spanked him and said, "In Ghana, we beat! Do you beat in America?"

I said, "No, we don't. We just tell them not to do whatever they did." and stuff like that.

Anywho...I thought it was pretty funny!

  1. Yo Kojo,
Wow, I think Fifi would have gotten a very different punishment if he lived in America! You're learning so much about all the different ways people do things. I love the last picture of the little boy hugging you!

  2. What sweet and snuggly kids! They really love having you there, don't they! You're a good "brother" to them. Keep the stories and photos coming. Scott and the boys say "hey, Rock!"

  3. Wow, how different school is there. I prefer the asking them to not do it to spanking. Those kids are just darling and you look like you are really enjoying them. Is the strike over yet? are you in school?

  4. I hope that your parents won't get any new ideas about discipline. Glad to see you dishing out hugs.

  5. I'm glad to see that beatings still occur in some countries. I can't wait to share this good news with my kids! Keep up the great writing, Rock!
